100% BASS Press Release 2/4/07 – Holder / Elshere Bag Big Limit at Lake Casitas The second round of the 100% Bass So Cal region commenced at Lake Casitas today. While a week prior had seen several days of steady rain on the lake, the weather today looked to be bright, sunny and warm. An inconsistent bite had been reported in previous weeks as the cold nighttime temperatures fought hard against the coming spring. 18 teams set out this morning to vie for the tournament title. Come weigh-in time, the bite appeared to be tough still, but Lake Casitas had a few surprises for us. The bass were still mainly deep and were caught with worms and jigs. The lack of significant wind, along with the bright skies and clear water made for a lackluster reaction bite for most. Only seven 5 bass limits made their way to the scales, and it became clear from the talk that this tournament was down to only 2 teams. Todd Holder and Larry Elshere asked for 4 bags at weigh-in which didn’t surprise anyone as they were thought to be one of the favorites coming in to the event. Anchored by a 7.53 pound big bass, their limit weighed in at 25.19. They reported catching their fish on jigs fished slowly in 30-50 feet of water. They thanked their sponsors Maxima Line, Anglers Marine and Eric’s Tackle and pocketed $2,490 for the win. Though they had a bag that would win many tournaments, Brian Linehan and Kyle Grover had to settle for second place for their 22.11 pound limit. As one of the 100% BASS staff teams, they came in early to help run the weigh-in and still made the most of their time on the water and cashed in $990. Caught mainly on Texas Rig RoboWorms, their limit was made of solid 4 pounders which they reported catching in 25-40 feet of water. Brian and Kyle thanked RoboWorm, VooDoo Baits, Anglers Marine, Sunline and Dobyns Rods for their support. So Cal tournament veterans Dennis Taylor and Jay Poore brought the biggest surprise to the scales today. Amongst their third place weight of 13.70 pounds was a smallmouth bass that Jay Poore caught early this morning. Weighing in at 2.78 pounds the unexpected catch was acknowledged as a lake record for Casitas which is not known to have a smallmouth bass population, though a few have been landed over the years. Their third place check totaled $725. Rounding out the top five were Gary McNaught and Mark Tibbetts with 13.21 pounds for fourth place and $345, and Brendon Widick and Justin Martens with 12.73 pounds which was good for fifth. The team of Carol Martens and Liz Jones won the 10 Lb. Option which was good for 4 Ducks hockey tickets donated by John Barron and the Top Stick Tour. The next 100% BASS So Cal event is slated for Sunday
March 4 at Lake Castaic. 100% BASS would like to thank the fine sponsors that make the difference between fishing and the quality events we are able to provide as a result of their support.
