100% BASS   Press Release

Lake Casitas April, 1 2007- Linehan / Grover Team Up and Conquer Casitas

The next to last stop for the 100% BASS So Cal region was at Lake Casitas today. A springtime tournament at Lake Casitas is often the kind of thing dreams are made of, as big bass are often found to be most susceptible to capture. However, conditions and the bass themselves took a u-turn in recent weeks, leaving anglers fishing deeper and slower than usual for this time of year. Limits of smaller bass were the rule, as the bigger bass seemed to be in hiding from most teams.

In tougher tournaments, it’s usually the more experienced teams that figure out a way to pry a nice bag of bass from stingy waters. Brian Linehan and Kyle Grover are fishing together this year as a new team, but their resumes speak for themselves as to their abilities as tournament anglers over the past several years. With their kill switch engaged, they rocketed out onto Lake Casitas and moshed their way to a limit of bass weighing 21.30 pounds. Using the excuse as being a “staff team who had work to do” they sandbagged until the last part of weigh-in, and then brought in their catch to a gawking crowd. When the bass were laid upon the scales, they tapped their tails in submission and relinquished the winning weight. Brian and Kyle had avenged the sevenfold 2nd place finishes Kyle had attained this season and ended the heartache with the teams first win.

“We caught our fish on Texas Rigged 7” Robo Worms in Oxblood Mud Vein color,” confessed Brian. “We had to fish deeper to awaken the fallen bigger fish that had buried their heads after already spawning. We fished Diamond Valley style- slow and methodical.”  Kyle also revealed that he could have been called “net boy” during this tournament, if only they had remembered to bring a net. Brian and Kyle pocketed $2,355 for the victory and took some sense of security in increasing their AOY points lead. Brian and Kyle thanked their sponsors: RoboWorm, Maxima Line, Dobyns Rods, VooDoo Baits and Anglers Marine.

Finishing in second place was  the venerable team of John Barron and Jerry Holden with 16.77 pounds. John had been putting the pieces of the puzzle together at Lake Casitas for several weeks as this was his 6th tournament there in just more than 2 months. Fishing Oxblood RoboWorms on a drop shot rig and a fly-lined Senko, John and Jerry went through several keepers on their way to a $1,010 payday. They thanked Revenge Baits, Dobyns Rods, UpScale Productions, RoboWorm, Ranger Boats and Anglers Marine for their support.

Even a flat tire couldn’t keep Eric Carter and Rob MacLean from getting to Casitas and earning Third Place money of $640 and garnering valuable AOY points. Eric and Rob weighed 14.78 pounds and put the heat on the front running Linehan/Grover team for the season title. Only 5 points separate the 2 teams heading into the season finale.

The top 5 was rounded out by Dennis Taylor and Jay Poore in fourth with 13.74 pounds, earning $275. Jay was heard to say that they would have had more weight if they could have gotten on their smallmouth pattern. Gary McNaught and Mark Tibbets, who continued their solid year,. finished in fifth place with 13.72 pounds. The team of Todd Holder and Larry Elshere never leave Casitas without a check, and the $200 they got for their 7.96 pound Big Fish continued that streak. Ron and Daniel Licari nabbed Second Big Bass honors with a 6.62 pound bass worth $100.

The last 100% BASS So Cal region event is June 3 at Lake Castaic. It will be the last serenade for the teams competing for Angler of the Year, and for those angling for placement in the Fish-Off Championship. When darkness falls and daylight dies at Castaic, history will be made.
