100% BASS Press Release 4/7/07 – Stone / Brown come up HUGE at Clear Lake If you don’t think that Clear Lake is the best BASS Fishery in the entire country, than you just don’t understand Bass Fishing. This place is without a doubt, Phenomenal!! Where do we start, 41 boats all weighed in 5 fish limits, 8 fish over 8 pounds came to the scales or with the average fish for the whole day (205 total to be exact) weighing 4.53 pounds. That’s right, 4.53 pounds. Virtually every bag that came in had at least one big fish in it, and as you will see, the winners had 5. The weather was perfect over the past few day for this to be a big day, and with the pressure dropping and a storm coming, you guessed it, weigh in blew everyone away. Special thanks to Jeff Billings of Clear Lake Bait and Tackle for giving everyone a warm place to check in on Saturday morning. His store is right on the edge of Red Bud Park, which made starting the tournament very easy. Turning everyone’s WOW meter up was the team of Jared Stone of Lakeport and Marc Brown of Ukiah. “The only way to describe this bag of a lifetime” as Jared said, is WOW. 39.29 pounds for 5 fish, and only a 9.78 pound kicker that was the 4th biggest fish of the day, meaning the other 4 fish weighed nearly 30 pounds. That’s over a 7 pound average. It just can’t get any better, I think. When asked how they did it, Stone replied “River2Sea Swimbaits, both in open water and bed fishing in a variety of areas from north to south. Some areas were pre-spawn so they stayed off the bank, while others had fish on beds and they flipped to them.A very good game plan as it turned and for a reward they received a pair of nice trophies from Kosich and Callahan Insurance Services and a check for $3940. Great job Jared and Marc. Second place went to former Anglers of the Year, Mark Crutcher and Greg McCosker, both of Lakeport. On most days, a 7 pound average would win any tournament around, but today their 35.96 pounds had to settle. Also collecting a little Big Fish Money with 5th place big bass of 9.75, all you can do is sit in amazement at this fishery an how these guys apply their talents. Crutcher also said they used River2Sea Swimbaits to accomplish the day’s goals in much the same method as the winners. They fish it in open water for part of the day and bed fished it when up north. As they collected their plaques and money in the amount of $1705, both remembered to thank sponsors, Powell Rods, River2Sea and TackleWareHouse.com. Finishing in third were Sonoma’s Dave Church and Petaluma’s John Kidder. With one of 3 fish this day over 10 pounds, their anchor bass tipped the scales at 10.41 pounds and helped bring up the total for 5 fish to 32.88 Lbs. Unbelievable for third. Kidder said at the awards that the focus for the tournament was all on pre-spawn fish with Rip Baits and Shaky Heads the weapon of choice. They spent the entire day on the south end of the lake focusing on areas near sunny flats, knowing the fish would be moving up soon. Good decision, as they were rewarded with $1225 and a pair of those nice trophies. Forth place went to Roseville’s Marcel Colin
and Ramon Fonseca. A mere 8.48 Lb. fish anchored the 31.75 pound limit for these
guys, and netted them $710 while $480 was awarded to fifth place finishers of
the day Troy Bellah of Kelseyville and Joel Adames of Redwood. 100% BASS would like to thank the fine sponsors that make the difference between fishing and the quality events we are able to provide as a result of their support.
