3/24/07 – Southern / Akins take 3rd stop on DVL with impressive 5 pound average.

Diamond Valley Lake is a great fishery and is quickly becoming the premier tournament lake in Southern California. Although the lake received a couple minor storm fronts during the week before 100% BASS visited, the water temps were in the 60’s and the clarity was gin clear.  In its third event of five, 100% BASS drew 34 teams and all but 2 weighed in 5 fish limits.

Winners of this event were Mitch Southern and Jason Akins. These guys are no strangers to the winners’ circle and are always one of the teams to beat at DVL. Their total weight for the day was an impressive 25.99 lbs. Mitch and Jason said that they caught a bunch of fish all day focusing on various main lake spots. Mitch said that they caught most of their fish Texas rigging a 10” Zoom worm. They also caught some fish on the C-Rig as well. For their efforts, the guys received a pair of nice trophies and a check in the amount of $4070. Mitch wanted to thank his sponsors, Anglers Marine and Cuda for their support. Jason also wanted to thank Anglers Marine, Kistler Rods, and Bladerunner Tackle for their support as well. Congratulations guys!

Second place went to Tom White and Ed Obymako. Just narrowly missing the lead by only .08, Tom and Ed weighed a huge limit at 25.92 lbs. Tom and Ed are great worm fishermen. While shaking a worm is a simple technique, these guys have obviously figured out a small variation that pays big dividends.  The Dividend this day was $1615 and pair of very nice trophies.

Third place went to Diamond Valley veterans John Krumsiek and John Curry. With the 4th big fish of the event at 6.75 lbs in their limit, they came in at 25.31 lbs. total weight. Like both teams ahead of them, Krumsiek and Curry know how to throw worms. As with most, their key to success was dragging the bait, very slow. Third place totaled out at $1115.

Finishing in fourth place were Harry Jioras and Kurt Hodges with 25.30. The team took home $795.

The Fifth place check of $600 went to DVL locals Henry Moody and Gary Southern. They had 24.84 anchored by the 2nd big fish, 6.88 lbs.

Lino and Gary Jubilado finished in sixth place with 23.41 lbs. The pair weighed the big fish of the tournament at 7.07 lbs and won $638 for their efforts.

Last in the money and in seventh place went to the current Anglers of the Year team of Kyle Grover and Will Rakowitz. They weighed in 23.26 lbs and won $260.

Thanks to everyone who came out and supported 100% BASS. Being our first year down South, I think the word is starting to spread about the paybacks. Also, I want to send a special thanks to Lynne Peterson of National Bass for helping us during the tournament. Your help was greatly appreciated.

Our next event is on Sunday, April 22. See you there!

Tournament Director
