100% BASS Press Release
11-22-2007 Keniry / Avina win kickoff at DVL with near record weight While most of America was still “reeling” from eating so much on Thanksgiving, Diamond Valley anglers were reeling in near record weights for the first event of the 2008 DVL region. Sunny skies and temperatures in the seventies greeted the 25 teams who participated in the tournament. Although November is typically one of the better months at Diamond Valley Reservoir, this year is a lot different. The water level at the lake is typically stable in November, but lake management has lowered the lake by over 30 feet. The falling water and Fall “turnover” has put the fish in a real funk. Most fish are suspended and finding a strong pattern is extremely difficult. More or less, the top finishers at the November 24 event were simply “junk fishing.” Winning the event and certainly no stranger to the winners circle was Pat Keniry of Lake Elsinore and David Avina of Murrieta. They caught a 5 fish limit for 30.55 lbs. and nearly broke the “all-time” heaviest limit (32 lbs.) caught last year in a 100% BASS Spring event. Unbelievably, out of 6 total events that 100% BASS has held at DVL, Pat they have won 3 of them! The pair won $3750 for only a 25 boat field which is unheard of in local team circuits!!! Pat and David mentioned that they had a rough day until the last couple hours of the tournament and caught their fish on a variety of baits including Rago Swimbaits, Upton Worms, and custom Keniry cranks. For those who don’t know, Pat is a master of lure fabrication and painting. Awesome job guys! Taking second place was the team of Mitch Southern and Jason Akins. The team Carolina Rigged and threw a combination of swimbaits to catch their 21.86 lb. limit. For their efforts, the team won $1400 and are going to be a tough team vying for the “Anglers of the Year” spot. Mitch and Jason thanked their sponsor Anglers Marine. Weighing in a 5 fish limit for 20.04 lbs. was the team of Cory Schleiden and David Valdivia. This is another team that’s going to be shooting for the AOY title and they won $1000 for their third place finish. The team mentioned that they caught their fish on swimbaits and worms. Jay Wright and Cory Dispenserio made the drive South to catch 19.73 lbs and finish in fourth place. They caught their fish on swimbaits and won $400 for the day. Fifth place and last in the money went to Rocky Asbury and Charlie Weinkauf. Their limit totaled 19.36 and they ended up with $300. I want to thank the anglers who came to the first event of the season. I decided to experiment to see what our turnout would be like by placing the event on top of Thanksgiving weekend and in hindsight, I think our participation paid for it. Many of the usual 100% BASS loyals were out of town, but promise to make the remaining schedule. In addition, a special thank you goes out to Ron Carberry of Empire Marine. Ron assisted me with the weigh-ins and was a big help. Ron is planning on attending all of the remaining events and is a great guy. Join us on January 5, 2008 for our next event at DVL and have a wonderful Christmas Holiday with those that you love. Best Regards, 100% BASS would like to thank the fine sponsors that make the difference between fishing and the quality events we are able to provide as a result of their support.
