100% BASS Press Release Lopez - 5/12/2007 – Father and Son Ledesma - School the shad and competitiors The final 100% Bass team tournament was held Saturday at Lopez Lake just up the canyon from the village of Arroyo Grande. The day started out with the marine layer overhead but the skies cleared and the ocean breeze picked up as the day progressed. Most of the teams reported the fishing was best early with the overcast and that the sunny, windy conditions kinda shut off the bite. The father and son team of Fred Ledesma Sr. and Fred Ledesma Jr. found a school of fish feeding on shad on their Lowrance electronics at their first stop. They worked the school with lipless crankbaits from 5 to 10 feet deep over about 20 feet. The team landed the first 8 to 10 fish then Fred Sr. commented that they hadn’t lost a fish yet on the crankbaits. That was a mistake as they lost the next 5 fish they hooked. They had the tournament’s big bass of the day, a 7.94 lb largemouth that anchored a limit that went 21.13. The team took home $2810.00 for their efforts. They also wanted to thank the team of John Spears and Doug Mount for their sportsmanship. The Ledesma team had two specific areas they were rotating between and John and Doug came across them while they were catching their fish. Fred Sr. said that John and Doug could have easily pushed in to one of the areas while the Ledesma’s were on the other spot but left anyway knowing the area the eventual winners were fishing. Tim Sharp and Nic Salvucci flipped Brush Hogs and Senkos to brush and trees all over the lake to capture second place with 18.72 pounds of bass. With no big fish this team was on consistent quality fish. They took down $1120.00 in this last tournament and valuable points towards the angler of the year race. John White and Steve Bereda did a little bit of everything to secure a third place finish. They reported that the flipping technique they rely on historically came through again but something that is rarely done out of John’s Champion boat is the drop shot and this day proved to be one of those days when a finesse bait came through. They banked $800.00 for the 15.73 lbs they brought to the scales. Craig Carrier and Dan Barrios were fourth with 15.58 that was good enough for $390.00. The sixth place team of John Wrona Sr. and John Wrona Jr. had the 3rd big fish that came in at 6.19 pounds but with only four fish came up short on the total weight for a place check. Everyone wanted to thank Jim Slusher, first year director, for putting on a great season and they are looking forward to next year. Tournament
