3/3/07 – Father and Son Fred Ledesma Sr. and Jr. Take Santa Margarita with Big Bag of Fish

The third Coastal Region tournament at Santa Margarita Lake just happened to fall on a picture perfect spring day. With the moon just going down as the anglers were lined out to go fishing for the day everyone was excited to see what the day would bring. Dock talk had guys in practice getting some remarkable bags of fish. In practice before the tournament pictures were taken of a 12, 11 and two 10’s with lots of 7 and 8 pound fish. Needless to say expectations were high for someone to pop a big bag at the scales at weigh in. Jigs, swimbaits, crankbaits all caught big fish on this day.

Fred Ledesma Sr. had a great day on the water alone since his son and team partner, Freddy Ledesma Jr. was a sponsor at a baptism and couldn’t make it. Fred fished in the river and in pockets on the main lake to win the tournament with 29 lbs. even and bagged a total of $3800. He used a centipede along with shallow and deep diving crankbaits. Fred would like to thank his sponsor, South County Mortgage.

Josh and Chris Brard got second with 24.83 lbs and had big fish of the tournament, a 10.30 pound beauty to cash out $1735. The Brard brothers said they stayed in the river area all day and the best bite was early with the bite slowing as the day progressed. They used jigs in 1 to 4 feet of water to get their best finish yet. They would like to thank Hurst Financial and Pro Built Homes in Atascadero for all the help that allowed them to fish this tournament.

Last year’s AOY team Manas Malikin and Miles Howe got third. Manas only caught two fish in their limit but they were both bigun’s. He said he caught them on a Huddleston Swimbait fishing long points on the main lake. While Manas threw swimbaits, Miles would drop shot in about 15 feet of water. Miles said he caught about 20 fish and lost a 5 pounder at the boat that would have helped them a lot. And with their total of 22.04 lbs they took home $985. They would like to thank Anglers Marine, Hot Sauce and Edge Products for their help.

Fourth place and $770 went to Tim Sharpe and Nic Salvucci, while fifth place went to the team of Phillips and Austin and they took home $430.
