100% BASS Press Release 3/4/07 – Lockhart & Rainey keep it rolling at Oroville Sunday at Lake Oroville turned out to be one of the most beautiful days of this year as the blue skies of spring showed up along with the first 70 degree day. Also showing up were 40 teams ready to duel the spotted bass. Yes the spots were on the prowl and very aggressive, as literally, every fish brought to the scales was a Spot. While spots were consistent, so was most everything else. Most fish were reportedly caught in 20 – 40 feet of water and the lure of choice was definitely, Brown Jigs with either a Brown or Purple trailer. Winners of this event were Glen Lockhart of Biggs and Tony Rainey of Yuba City. Lockhart is coming off of a victory just a few weeks ago, where he won a new boat and appears to be keeping the magic alive. Today’s event featured the big fish of the day, a very nice 3.87 pound spotted bass that anchored their winning weight of 13.25 pounds. At the awards, Lockhart said they fished all day in the middle fork of the lake, focusing on sunny banks. While the big fish came on a Swimbait, the rest of their fish were caught on ¼ once brown jigs with a brown trailer. Today as yesterday was, slow presentation was a big key. For their efforts, the guys received a pair of nice trophies and a check in the amount of $4450. Congratulations to Glen and Tony for a fine day of fishing. Second place went to reigning Angler of the Year, Bob Benson and Jim Riley of Shasta Lake. They had the 2nd place big bass weighing 3.57 pounds anchoring their 5 fish limit of 12.79 pounds. Benson and Riley have “made a living” on the main body of the lake over the years, and today is no exception. With Mothers Finest Hand Poured Worm at the head of their arsenal, they used a 6” Oxblood worm on a dart head and shook, and shook and shook. While shaking a simple technique, these guys have obviously figured out a small variation that pays big dividends. The Dividend this day was $1915 and pair of very nice trophies. Third place went to new comers Kevin Stewart of Elk Grove and Brian Slavich of Wilton. With a 3.16 pound kicker in their bag of 5, they came in at 12.44 pounds total weight. These guys also spent the entire day in the Middle Fork of the lake and pitched Brown Rodstrainer Jigs. As with most, their key to success was dragging the bait, very slow. Third place totaled out at $730. Finishing in forth place were Reddings Jason Sherman and Bill McLaughlin. Currently, these guys are in 1st place in the anglers of the year race, but will need 2 strong finishes to unseat Riley and Benson as AOY. Forth place took home $1050. The Fifth place check of $910 went to long time good guys Pete Pinkerton of Lakehead and Don Reighley of Oroville. Congratulations to all the top teams. We will see you next at Shasta Lake, April 1st at Phil’s Props. 100% BASS would like to thank the fine sponsors that make the difference between fishing and the quality events we are able to provide as a result of their support.
