4/14/07 - Juan Cruz and Bob Sanders limit out at Berryessa fighting the elements. 12.99
lb. bass anchors the win for Juan Cruz and Bob Sanders on Berryessa, the second
stop of the WRL Race to New Melones, the location for the 2007 Tournament of
Champions on October 6 and 7. Weighing that giant and taking First Place was the team of Juan Cruz and Bob Sanders, both from Hollister. It was a monster bass that was nearly too large to fit into the basket to be weighed. She was a 12.99 lb. gorgeous bass getting ready to spawn. The weight of their bags tipped the scales at 20.01 lbs. They said they used Senkos in green pumpkin wacky rigged, rattle traps and spinner baits to catch their limit. They fished in Steele Park for their bass. They left with winnings of $2070 for a hard days work. Great teamwork guys! Ron Frye from Dixon and Frank Hollard of Rio Linda came to the scales with another Berryessa giant that weighed in at 9.14 lbs and a limit which made their total weight 17.25 lbs. putting them in second place. With their bag of fish they left the tournament with winnings of $1135. Ron told the crowd that he caught the big fish on a swim bait and also stated he had never thrown a swim bait before but now he is looking for any sponsorships from swim bait manufacturers so if any company is interested please contact Ron Frye! Nice job guys! Third place went to the team of Justin Warmack from Carson City Nevada and Mike McCauley from Sacramento. They said they fished reaction style baits; Mighty Minnows, rip baits, spinner baits and used Senkos, for their five bass. They fished on the west side of the lake. For their hard work they left with a paycheck of $2220 for catching a large bass that weighed 7.92 lbs and their bag of bass totaling 16.45 lbs. Sweet! Winning Forth Place overall and First Place in the Small Boat Division! “Small boat? Small boats can’t compete against the large boats. They are not fast enough.” Well this team proved that statement wrong. Let me tell you, it is all about the preparation and quality of the angler. I tip my hat to both of you. Great job! The team of Ryan German and James Flook both from Fairfield took the win. They told everyone they used the drop shot method and fished all over the lake for their 14.79 lb. bag of fish. They also had a large bass that weighed in at 6.77 lbs. For their efforts they won $1015. Jarrod
Reynolds who lives in Reno Nevada and Charley France from Chilcoot, CA came in
Fifth Place. Their bag of bass weighed 14.42 lbs. For their hard day on the
water they took home winnings of $815. I want to thank all of you for fishing our WRL circuit and to those of you who traveled through not only rain but snow to come from Nevada special thanks go out to you as well. I cannot imagine what it was like to tow a boat with chains on your rig. Thank
you to my staff for standing out in the rain for the weigh-in and to Matt for
withstanding the elements to check in the boats on the water. These tournaments
would not run so smoothly if it wasn’t for my team, Tony, with his hands poked
like a pin cushion; he can’t wait until Clear Lake, no spotted bass there!
