100% BASS   Press Release

Oroville and W.R.L. collide as Pineo and Monaghan come out on top!

Sunday Lake Oroville kicked out some bass for the 100% Bass Western Rookie League better known as the W. R. L. which held their first tournament of the year.  Ladies and gentlemen, thanks to you the anglers, we did it!  102 boats!!  Yes, I said 102!  When I drove down to the launch ramp and saw the boats with their lights on it looked like Christmas! What a sight!  Five years ago our first season began with less than 30 boats.  Again my thanks go to all the participants.  What an event and a wonderful change in weather from last year with freezing temperatures, rain and even snow to a gorgeous sunny and warm day, shorts was the wardrobe for this year.  Bob Kornhauser, the owner of 100% Bass came out to say a few words and to personally thank the anglers for participating in this event.  We gave a moment of silence for three fallen fishermen, Dwaine King from Fisherman’s Warehouse in Manteca, Bruce La Belle who fished our circuit the past two years and Ed Borghelli who was a mentor for many anglers in the art of bass fishing.  Our thoughts go out to their families.  Where ever you guys are, I hope you are culling 7 lbers.  Then the rules were given and the small boat division took off followed by the large boat division.  As the last boat passed by I turned to Bob and said, “This is a great way to start off the year with our new name.”

Our first boat arrived at 2:45 and the last boat was weighed in at 4:20.  Smoking!  At the awards ceremony, we gave away sponsored item bags that included product from Persuader Baits, Berkeley, Snag Proof Lures, MF Custom Worms, Solar Bat Sun glasses and Powell Rods.  Thanks to sponsors for their support.

Oroville is not usually a place where large fish are weighed in but for our First Place team in the large boat division, weighing in 14.84 lbs. with the big fish of the tournament that tipped the scales at 6.03 lbs. was the team of Keith Pineo of Citrus Heights and Matt Monaghan of Elk Grove fishing Senkos, jigs and dart heads in the south fork of the lake. Gas money was made and they took home winnings of $3,175.00 for a few hours of fun in the sun!  Great job guys!

Second Place went to the team of Phillip Garcia and Micheal Sperbeck both from Yuba City who had a weight of 12.91 lbs. for their nice bag of bass and their largest bass weighed in at 3.07 lbs.  They told everyone they fished in the north part of the lake using jig head worms.  They took home a paycheck of $1,835.00 for their day’s work.

Third Place went to Ron Wilson of Valley Springs and Billy Sullivan from Ione who came to the scales with a limit weighing in at 12.72 lbs. and their lunker that weighed 3.52 lbs.  They told crowd they caught their bass on spooks, Lucky Craft and Robo worms in the Middle Fork of the lake.  A payday of $1,285.00 for a few hours of fishing is well worth the effort!

Sergio Delgadillo and Vince Huff took Forth and had a nice bag of bass that weighed in at 12.58 lbs. and their kicker of 3.25 lbs.  For their efforts at Oroville they took home $760.00 of winnings. Sergio needed to contact the police because of the paparazzi that was taking pictures of him and Vince.     NOT, it was only a friend!

Fifth and Sixth Place had a tied weight of 12.17 lbs. Joe Sameron and Ron Cormier walked away $1,007.50 for their part of the winnings, options and they had 2nd Big Fish that weighed in at 3.67 lbs.  The team of William Kizer and Christopher Garner that had their bag of fish with the same weight of 12.17 lbs. took home $312.50 winnings.

In the Small Boat Division, we started out better than ever with ten boats.  From home made bass boats to store bought bass boats, they were there.  I personally remember my first bass boat, home made and purple.  I was a bass fisherman.  It makes me feel good when I see anglers that have that passion.  Small Boat Division anglers work harder as they cannot get around as fast as the larger boats so when they do well, hats come off to them.  With the weight of 10.14 lbs., the team from Sacramento, David Myers and James Dammann took First Place.  They told the crowd they caught their fish on plastic baits, every shape they had in their box.  If it was plastic, they said they threw it.  Great job guys!  Nice start for the first tournament.

Second Place was the team of Jeff Hardin of Chico and Paul Eusey from Elk Grove weighing in a bag of 5 fish for 9.77 lbs. Sweet!

Third Place was a father and son team of Gregory Silva and Gregory Jr.  They brought a limit of bass to the scale that weighed 9.35 lbs.  Great job!

I hope everyone enjoyed the first event of 2007.  This event could not have been a success without my staff so I personally want to thank them.
