100% BASS   Press Release

03/08/08  - Crutcher / McCosker take 3rd Stop on Wine Regions Lake Berryessa

Lake Berryessa in the spring time is a beautiful place. Especially when the Sun in shining, the weather is warm and a slight breeze is blowing. These are exactly the conditions we had on this Saturday morning and with spring conditions like these, Mother Nature didn’t let us down. The fishing was pretty darn good also as most of the 36 teams brought in 5 fish limits. Things were very typical as the fish were moving up. Jigs and worms in 10-20 feet were the norm with the afternoon swimbait bite kicking in and producing several monsters.

No strangers to the winners circle, today’s winners were Lakeport’s Mark Crutcher and Greg McCosker. As former Anglers of the Year they have proven the ability to adjust to conditions and figure things out quickly, which is always required when the fish are on the move. On this day they brought in 5 fish that weighed 18.87 pounds but it was the swimbait fish (see picture right) weighing 11.47 pounds that made the difference for these guys. McCosker caught the fish with less than 10 minutes to go in the tournament on an ABT Soft Wag Tail lure in less than 3 feet of water. Crutcher said at the awards that they had struggled most of the morning putting only about 10 pounds of fish in the boat using Maverick Worms, and made the decision to go for broke. They both picked up swimbaits and started chuckin’ and winding. It paid off big, as winners they took home $3300 and a pair of nice Trophies compliments of Kosich and Callahan Insurance. The guys also took the time to thank sponsors Powell Rods, Tackle It , Snag Proof and Tacklewarehouse.com. Congratulation to Mark and Greg for yet another great day.

Second place went to new comers Brad Manion of Castro Valley and Nate Greenaway from Dublin. Using a variety of lures, including Ripbaits, Swimbaits, Jigs, Worms and Cranks, they showed their versatility and brought in a limit totaling 18.07 that was backed by the Black Dog Baits, Big Fish of the day, (shown left), a very nice 12.01 pound lunker. Fishing mostly on the east side of the main lake, they focused on points near drop offs. Most of the time the team would throw reaction baits and then mix in the other lures when they couldn’t get the quick bite on a spot. The ability to switch up made all the difference as the also received a pair of those nice trophies and $2105. Like many of the anglers today, they have sponsor help, and thanked Taps Truck Accessories and Ranger Boats for their support.

Finishing in third were a pair a very nice guys, Duane Rhodes of Redwood Valley and John Reese of Kelseyville. These two had a little different pattern than most. To find their 17.04 pounds of fish, they located small isolated weed patches on the north end of the lake and worked them very slowly with Brown Jigs and swimbaits. Their reward for being a little different was $1230. Good job guys.

Forth place went to Kelseyville’s Jerry Tilton and Wayne Breazeale. These two have been the model of consistency so far this year being the only team to finish in the top 6 in every tournament which has taken them to the top of the Angler of the Year standings. They did it by fishing bottom baits all day that netted them 5 fish for 14.20 pounds and brought them $625.

Fifth place was awarded to Billy Hines and Greg Parsons with a limit totaling 13.34 pounds. This brought them $440.
