100% BASS Press Release 2-23-08 – Ballesteros / Tatum on top of fisherman and mussels at Casitas February 23, 2008 – Today marked the second stop of the 2008 So Cal 100% BASS Region season at Lake Casitas. Though the current concern over invasive nuisances has made lake officials nervous and over-zealous to disallow anglers from lake admission, 12 teams made it through inspection to fish the event. The recent weather systems moving through the area had lowered air and water temperatures, possible delaying bass migration to shallow areas in spite of the favorable pre-spawn moon phase. Full limits and a big winning limit today brought little doubt that Spring is about to pop big-time at this trophy factory. Jerry Ballesteros and Jim Tatum weathered the incoming storm and torched the field with a 25.25 limit anchored by an 8.05 pound kicker bass. Caught on Osprey swimbaits and Carolia-rigged soft plastics, their limit cashed the team $1,990. Veterans Dennis Taylor and Jay Poore finished second with their 18.86 pound limit worth $740, and moved them into first place in the AOY standings. Mike Reese and Tony Capparelli grabbed $480 for third place with their 17.08 limit. Finishing off the Top 5 were Tim Grinolds and Doug Frasco with 14.66 pounds for Fourth and Joey Candler and Randy Yamanouye with their 13.53 pound Fifth place limit. The next event for the 2008 So Cal Region is at Lake Cachuma on March 22.
