100% BASS Press Release 01/13/08 - Fancelli / Pyles shine like the weather at Shasta Lake kick off Sunday was not your usual day for January in Northern California. After weeks of unsettled weather, Mother Nature picked this day for blue skies and temperatures in the 60’s. Not a breeze of air made this a great just to be outside, much less fishing for bass. 27 teams came to Phil’s Props for check in and then made the trek to Bridge Bay for fishing and the weigh in. At the weigh in many teams reported catching a lot of fish; however the better fish weren’t biting for most. Many said the worm bite was on, many said the jig bite was on, one thing was sure, after two weeks of major tournaments on the lake fishing was definitely different. First place today went to Redding’s own Chris Fancelli and Jeff Pyles. Chris has been on a role lately with a win at an amateur TOC, a second place in a major Pro/Am last weekend and now a win at 100% BASS. Keep up the good work and keep using those MF Custom Hand Poured Worms made by some guy in Redding named, Arnold Fancelli. It’s always nice having an in with a major worm maker. Anyway, these guys had a real nice day with a 14.05 pound bag of Spotted Bass, anchored by the Big Dog Baits, big fish of the day, a 4.87 pound Toad Spot. As mentioned, Chris and Jeff were using MF worms in 6” Mohave Oxblood and Margarita Mutilator on Dart heads in 20 – 30 feet. He told us later the real key was an area he found the week before where fish were moving up from the deep and focusing on this point next to a flat on the main body of the lake. Congratulations to Chris and Jeff, I’m sure you’ll remember this day when you look back at your 1st place plaques sponsored by Phil’s Props, and of course as you’re spending the $2705. Second place went to Chris Laskowski of Redding and Bryan McDemott of Cottonwood. This Chris has also been on a role, just winning the FLW Stren Tournament last weekend. I guess when you’re on them, you fish everything is site and keep on catching them. Bryan and Chris weighed in a 5 fish limit of 11.00 pounds that had a 2.97 kicker bass. At the awards, Chris told everyone the used two methods of fishing, Drop Shotting MGM Worms and Dart Heading Rainbow Worms. Both were in shad colors and were fished in 20 – 30 feet. Sound like the top two teams were on the same deal. Their reward this day was a very nice $1285. Finishing in third were Gridley’s Glen Lockhart and Yuba City’s Tony Rainey. These guys also had a big fish, 2nd biggest of the day, a 4.00 pound that topped off their 10.89 limit. Glen and Tony were on a little different pattern than most. They were fishing Jigs and Tube baits, in Brown or Pumpkin. Glen said they stayed shallow for about 2 hours, and then went to 40 feet for the rest of the day. It paid off as they took home $1125. Forth place Redding’s Al Hunt and Mike Gordon. They received $490 for a 5 fish limit weighing 10.46 while 10.35 pounds was weighed in by fifth place finishers Dick Barr and Tony Zanotelli. Dick and Tony received $440. Congratulations to all for a great day. We hope to see you at our next on February 3rd at Lake Oroville.
